Celebrity Cruises names third Solstice-Class Ship

MIAMI – January 9, 2007 – Celebrity Cruises is kicking off the new year by announcing the name of the third “celestial” ship in its 118,000 gross-registered-ton Solstice-class fleet. Celebrity Eclipse will make its maiden voyage in 2010, following sister ships Celebrity Solstice in 2008 and Celebrity Equinox in 2009, bringing the Celebrity fleet to 13 ships.

Like its sister ships, Celebrity Eclipse will have larger standard staterooms, 90 percent of which will be outside, and 85 percent of those will have verandas. The 2,850-guest ships will have an exceptional range of guest-inspired services and amenities, and will measure 1,033 feet in length and 121 feet in width. German shipbuilder Meyer Werft will build the new tonnage.

“Naming Celebrity Eclipse brings us that much closer to making this phenomenal new class a reality,” said Celebrity Cruises President Dan Hanrahan. “Our brand is in a period of significant growth and momentum, and our new Solstice class exemplifies that expansion in an incredibly exciting way.”

Celebrity Set to Revamp Dining Fleetwide

Celebrity Cruises is revamping its shipboard dining and will have the new menus and cuisine in place fleetwide by the end of January. The news was revealed to press and top travel agents attending a reception hosted by Celebrity during THE TRADE SHOW in Las Vegas. Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, Celebrity's vice president of onboard revenue and entertainment, said the new menus will be more contemporary and will have new presentations "to be more in line with what fine restaurants on land are doing."

Overseeing the menu redesign is Celebrity's new vice president of food and beverage, Jacques Van Staden, who joined the line after working with Blau & Associates, a top restaurant consultant in Las Vegas. Blau is also consulting with Celebrity on the new menus. At Monday night's reception, guests were given a sampling of what the new menus might feature, including mushroom risotto, mini hamburgers with foie gras and tiny parmesan baskets filled with goat cheese. "We want to take our cuisine further to define Celebrity in a new way," Lutoff-Perlo said. "The cuisine will be revamped in all restaurants on all seven ships except for the specialty restaurants," she said. Specialty restaurants will be reviewed in a second phase once the new menus are in place.
